Yema Granvelle CMM.20: Framing Time with French Elegance

The Yema Granvelle CMM.20 (£1797) presents a compelling vision of understated luxury, a timepiece where meticulous detailing and mechanical precision converge in a silhouette of refined elegance. The eye is immediately drawn to the rich guilloché dial, its hypnotic concentric pattern creating a captivating sense of depth and subtle motion.

This textured canvas is artfully framed by an hour markers chapter ring, where the indices are delicately carved into the metal, an inversion that plays with shadow and reflection, lending the watch a quiet sophistication. Adding a touch of vintage-inspired charm and visual asymmetry is the small seconds sub-dial, positioned at 9 o’clock, a subtle yet elegant way to track the passage of time for those who appreciate traditional watchmaking. Sleek dauphine-style hands glide gracefully across this thoughtfully composed dial.

The Granvelle benefits from a remarkably slim case profile, a direct result of its ultra-thin in-house CMM.20 micro-rotor movement. By ingeniously integrating the oscillating weight within the movement’s architecture, Yema has achieved a sleek 8.60mm thickness, enhancing both the comfort on the wrist and the overall elegance of the watch.

The 39mm cushion-shaped case, crafted from brushed stainless steel with polished vertical coin-edge flanks and chamfers, draws its inspiration from the arches of the Granvelle Palace in Besançon, the heart of French watchmaking and the home of YEMA’s workshops. The cushion-shaped crown, signed with YEMA’s historic “Y,” adds a touch of authenticity and originality to this discreetly sophisticated design.

Turning the watch over reveals a sapphire caseback, offering a mesmerising view of the in-house CMM.20 micro-rotor calibre. The rhodium-plated bridges are galvanised and then adorned with a Côtes de Genève sunray pattern, creating a dynamic and polished aesthetic.

As the movement subtly rotates, the interplay of light produces an elegant shimmering effect, giving the impression of a constantly shifting surface. This exhibition caseback is a testament to YEMA’s commitment to showcasing their horological artistry.

Completing this elegant package is a premium leather strap with a gradual taper from the lug to the buckle, accented with contrasting beige stitching for an added touch of sophistication. Durable and comfortable for everyday wear, the strap is fitted with a high-quality stainless steel deployant clasp, perfectly complementing the tones of the case.

The Yema Granvelle CMM.20 is more than just a timekeeping instrument; it is a symbol of French horological artistry, a curated experience of time presented with timeless elegance and mechanical precision.
