Diving Deep with Heritage: The IANOS Dytis

Following in the esteemed wake of the Mihanikos, a timepiece lauded for its rugged minimalism and deep-sea lineage, Ianos unveils the Dytis – the concluding chapter in their compelling diver watch trilogy. The Dytis isn’t merely a new model; it’s a distillation of the lessons learned from the Avyssos and the Mihanikos, presenting a unique vision of the contemporary diver while steadfastly honouring Greek history and heritage, a cornerstone of the Ianos ethos.

Maintaining the unmistakable Ianos design DNA, the Dytis subtly blends elements from its predecessors while forging its own distinct identity. Every facet has been meticulously re-imagined, evolving the diver watch design into what Ianos envisions as the perfect underwater companion. A key characteristic of the Dytis is its refined take on the beloved Mihanikos case.

Responding directly to enthusiast feedback, the Dytis Watch boasts Ianos’ most compact case yet, a versatile 41mm diameter with a 49mm lug-to-lug, striking a comfortable balance for wrists of all sizes. The elegantly curved lugs further enhance the ergonomic fit, reducing the overall presence on the wrist. Crafted from lightweight yet robust grade 2 titanium, the matte-finished case offers a noticeable wrist presence without ever feeling cumbersome.

The titanium bezel maintains the clean, instrumental aesthetic that defines Ianos, drawing the eye towards the bold and thoughtfully designed dials, offered for the first time in both a striking blue and a crisp white. The blue dial is a direct homage to the exact shade of the Greek flag, its rich hue providing a stunning backdrop for the highly legible white indexes. Conversely, the white dial draws inspiration from the iconic whitewashed buildings of the Greek islands, presenting a fresh and undeniably bold aesthetic.

A unique touch is the replacement of the traditional 12-hour marker with four horizontal lines, another subtle nod to the Greek flag. The kampanelopetra indexes are inspired by the hand-carved diving stone used in the Avyssos video, a poignant reminder of the brand’s deep connection to its history. Furthermore, the small seconds display now features a double-edged “evil eye,” a timeless Greek symbol of protection, representing an unbroken link to ancestral customs.

Engineered for any aquatic pursuit, the Dytis prioritises both lightness and strength. The grade 2 titanium used for the case, bezel, crown, and even the strap buckle is renowned for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, and lightweight properties. Approximately 45% lighter than stainless steel, the Dytis virtually disappears on the wrist, ensuring all-day comfort without compromising durability. Its inherent resistance to seawater corrosion makes titanium the ideal material for a dive watch destined for saltwater, humidity, and extreme environments. The shot-blasted titanium finish, a familiar touch from the Mihanikos, enhances its utilitarian character with a matte, non-reflective surface.

Built to perform flawlessly under pressure, the Dytis offers 300 meters (30 ATM) of water resistance, secured by a screw-down titanium crown and a resilient sapphire crystal. Whether diving into the Aegean depths, sailing the turquoise waters, or simply enjoying a poolside respite, the Dytis provides unwavering peace of mind.

At its heart beats the reliable Swiss Sellita SW360-1 automatic movement, ensuring robust performance and precision, while the distinctive “evil eye” small seconds hand serves as a constant visual confirmation of the watch’s operation. Raised 3D luminous indexes provide ample illumination in low-light conditions, essential for underwater exploration or a late-night swim.

A signature element of Ianos watches, the ingeniously integrated strap channel, is present in the Dytis. This design allows for a tighter, more ergonomic fit, preventing unwanted movement on the wrist. In a departure from the Avyssos and Mihanikos, the Dytis features fixed lugs with a sleek internal incline, allowing straps to glide seamlessly through the channel, minimizing wrist-to-strap spacing for a snug and streamlined fit, making the Dytis the most comfortable Ianos diver yet. Priced at CHF 1850, the IANOS Dytis is more than just a dive watch; it’s a wearable piece of Greek heritage, engineered for modern adventure.
