Patent-Pending Worldtimer: MING 57.05 Comet Polymesh

For nearly a century—ever since Louis Cottier developed the rotating 24-hour city ring worldtimer mechanism in the 1930s—horologists have wrestled with a persistent flaw: Daylight Saving Time. While standard 24-hour worldtimers display standard global time zones beautifully, seasonal clock shifts force travellers to manually calculate time offsets in their heads.

Celebrating their ninth anniversary, Malaysian-founded independent manufacture MING has introduced an elegant, patent-pending mechanical solution: the MING 57.05 Comet Polymesh.

Named in tribute to the de Havilland Comet—the world’s first commercial jetliner—this limited edition of 200 pieces brings genuine innovation to travel-time complications.

Patent-Pending Dual Bezel Architecture

Rather than piling on internal gear trains, MING solved the DST problem through clever exterior geometry. The cities listed on the 57.05 Comet are divided between two rings: cities that remain on standard time year-round stay fixed on the inner bezel, while cities observing DST sit on a distinct outer ring.

By rotating the outer bezel counter-clockwise by a single 15-degree click, all DST-observing locations instantly advance by one hour against the 24-hour track. Visual confirmation is provided by a small aperture between 8 and 9 o’clock that fills with red Super-LumiNova when DST is engaged, returning to silver for standard time.

Kinetic “Comet Tail” Dial & Sellita Calibre 330.M2

Beneath a floating, laser-engraved box-style sapphire crystal filled with MING Polar White luminous material sits a multilayered blue dial.

Featuring overlapping grid structures, the dial creates a dynamic optical interference pattern dubbed the “Comet Tail,” subtly shifting visual texture as light moves across it throughout the day. At night, the 24-hour ring glows with blue emission for day hours and orange for night hours.

Powering the piece is the automatic Sellita for MING Calibre 330.M2, featuring skeletonised, anthracite-coated bridges visible through the exhibition caseback.

Encased in a 40mm 316L stainless steel housing (10.33mm thick with a 47.8mm lug-to-lug span) featuring MING’s signature triple-stepped lugs, the watch is fitted with an ultra-lightweight titanium Polymesh bracelet equipped with a micro-adjusting flying-blade clasp.

Priced at CHF 7,950 on the bracelet, the 57.05 Comet stands out as one of the most mechanically intuitive independent worldtimers in modern horology.
