Glasgow-based independent manufacture anOrdain has built an international cult following around its exquisite vitreous enamel dials, resulting in a multi-year waiting list.
To offer collectors an equally artistic alternative without the extended wait times, the Scottish workshop developed the anOrdain Model 1 Porcelain (£2,200 + VAT). Unlike industry offerings that rely on pre-manufactured zirconia ceramic sheets, anOrdain crafts genuine clay-based porcelain in-house.
Using traditional pottery firing techniques refined over two years, each dial undergoes high-temperature glazing that yields a rich, translucent liquid-white depth. The painstaking process sees up to a 90 per cent rejection rate, ensuring only flawless porcelain discs reach the assembly desk.
Tasbihgou Typography & La Joux-Perret Power
Serving as a stark, pristine canvas, the glossy white dial is printed with custom numerals designed exclusively for anOrdain by renowned typographer Kia Tasbihgou.
The rich blue numerals blend classic Breguet pocket watch elegance with bold, modern geometry.
The heat-blued steel hands were designed as an integrated unit alongside the lettering: the skeletonised hour hand features an off-centre circular aperture that mirrors the shape of the zero numerals, while the sharp minute hand provides clean linear contrast.
Framed within a 38mm 316L stainless steel case measuring 11mm thick with a 46mm lug-to-lug span, the watch sits low and balanced on the wrist. Buyers can select between two Swiss automatic movements: the La Joux-Perret G101 or the hand-decorated A1 calibre, both delivering a substantial 68-hour power reserve.
Fitted to anOrdain’s new in-house leather strap crafted by their dedicated textile department, the Model 1 Porcelain stands as a triumph of contemporary typography and authentic ceramic craft.
