Architectural Refinement: Trafford Watch Co. Crossroads Core Blue Watch

In independent watchmaking, square cases are notoriously challenging to execute well. Yet, Austin-based Trafford Watch Co. made a resounding statement with the original Crossroads—a timepiece that embraced bold architectural geometry and vibrant dial artistry.

Now, the brand reaches a milestone with the Trafford Watch Co Crossroads Core Blue Watch, bringing its celebrated square silhouette into permanent production.

Priced at $899, the Core Crossroads Blue elevates the collection with an ultra-thin profile, refined finishing, and a proud Swiss-Made designation.

Ultra-Slim Case Architecture & Bevelled Sapphire Geometry

The most dramatic physical evolution of the Core Crossroads lies in its refined wrist presence. By reducing case depth to a razor-thin 9mm at its tallest point, Trafford created a watch that sits remarkably flat and close to the skin.

The signature curved horizon line remains, complemented by a narrower bezel that allows the striking blue dial to take centre stage. Both the 316L stainless steel case and bracelet feature a protective hardening coating that offers genuine scratch resistance without altering the tactile feel of the steel.

Protecting the display is a double-domed sapphire crystal with an interior anti-reflective coating—a rare feature on a square case.

The underside is hollowed out to bring the glass closer to the dial, enhancing legibility while keeping the profile slender. A subtle bevel along the crystal’s perimeter catches light from the blue dial, creating a soft frame of light around the display.

Recognising that square timepieces wear larger than round ones, Trafford offers the Core Blue in two distinct proportions: the Crossroads 36 (measuring 31mm × 32mm) and the Crossroads 40 (measuring 35mm × 36mm). Both sizes share the ultra-slim 9mm profile, ensuring every wrist finds its ideal fit.

Radiating Sunburst Dial & Night-Time Luminescence

The dial has always been the star of the show, and the Core Blue execution is a masterclass in light play. The central area is distinctly raised before sloping gently toward the outer edge.

A radiating sunburst pattern sweeps across this topography, cascading ambient light across the rich blue surface. Polished numerals are filled with C3 Swiss Super-LumiNova and inset directly into the slope, adding three-dimensional depth.

“By pairing an ultra-thin 9mm hardened case with a hand-wound Swiss Sellita SW-210 calibre, Trafford elevates its architectural square watch into an $899 independent triumph.”

When ambient light fades, the Core Blue undergoes a dramatic transformation. Polished hands and inset numerals glow brightly, while a newly added luminous chapter ring reflects against the curved sapphire crystal, casting a subtle ring of light around the inner perimeter.

At the heart of the Core Crossroads is a major evolution in provenance. With movement components manufactured in La Chaux-de-Fonds and final assembly in Porrentruy, this is the first Trafford watch to carry the ‘Swiss-Made’ seal.

Powering the watch is the hand-wound Sellita SW-210, regulated to +/- 5 seconds per day. Offering a 42-hour power reserve, it brings back the tactile ritual of manual winding every other day.
