A Decade Defined: Exploring the About Vintage 1564 Negroni Automatic Chronodate Watch

About Vintage has quickly established itself as a brand adept at navigating the space between horological heritage and contemporary design, creating timepieces that feel both familiar and fresh. Marking a significant milestone – their first decade as a watch brand – they are launching a collection of new limited editions, among them the striking 1564 Negroni Automatic Chronodate Watch. This piece is presented as a deliberate celebration of their first decade, with a design that thoughtfully balances vintage and contemporary elements, honouring their history while casting a clear eye towards the future.

The design of the 1564 Negroni Automatic Chronodate Watch is a considered exercise in detail. The case, measuring 39mm in diameter (49.2mm lug-to-lug, 13mm thickness, 20mm lug width), is crafted from 316L high precision stainless steel sourced from Finland, a material commonly used in fine watches and jewellery globally.

The case itself showcases a blend of polished and brushed finishes, expertly applied to accentuate its curves and layered structure – a clear indicator of attention to finishing detail. It features a snap-on caseback, contributing to its overall slim profile, and each watch is individually numbered, highlighting its limited-edition status. While featuring a snap-on caseback, the watch still provides a practical 5 ATM / 50 meters of water resistance, suitable for everyday splashes.

Beneath the double domed sapphire crystal – a material chosen for its high scratch resistance and enhanced with an anti-reflective coating for better visibility, deemed key to lifelong quality – lies a beautifully textured gradient dial. This adds significant depth and character to the watch face. Functionally, the dial incorporates a date window positioned at 4:30 and features detailed subdials that provide day, month, and a 24-hour indicator, delivering the practical complications inherent in its “Chronodate” name.

Powering this blend of vintage-inspired design and modern functionality is the Miyota Caliber 9120 Premium Automatic movement. This Japanese-made calibre is renowned for its precision and reliability, notable for being a thin automatic movement. It operates at a high beat rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour (3 Hz) and offers a practical 40-hour power reserve with hacking seconds for precise time setting. Its slim profile and multifunctional capabilities, including those day, date, month, and 24-hour displays, made it a perfect and robust choice for this model.

About Vintage emphasises their careful selection of Swiss and Japanese-made quality movements from A-grade factories and suppliers, choosing specific calibers like the Miyota 9120 that are proven “workhorses” for optimal durability. They highlight how their use of A-grade factories impacts all the small but important details, from the feel of the steel edges to the quality feel and weight of components and rigorous quality control.

The 1564 Negroni Automatic Chronodate Watch is part of a strictly limited run, with only 500 pieces produced for this specific model within the 10-year anniversary collection. To mark its launch, the first 50 pieces of each model are available for immediate delivery, making them a rare piece for those who truly value time and want to be among the first to wear it. The remaining pieces will be delivered in August 2025.

Available at a price point of £459 here in the UK, the About Vintage 1564 Negroni Automatic Chronodate Watch is a stylish and functional limited edition timepiece that expertly blends design heritage with contemporary execution and practical complications, powered by a reliable automatic movement. Its limited availability, especially the initial batch, positions it as a compelling piece for discerning enthusiasts celebrating About Vintage’s first decade.
