Svelte Sophistication: Exploring the Farer Forrest Lissom Watch

Farer has consistently impressed with its ability to blend vibrant, often unexpected colour palettes with serious Swiss watchmaking and compelling narratives. Their timepieces are designed for those who appreciate both aesthetic distinction and genuine horological substance.

The Farer Forrest Lissom watch stands as a pure expression of this philosophy, embodying what the brand describes as the “epitome of modern sophistication” – a watch that combines a remarkably slim profile with a striking design and an exceptional level of finishing.

The inspiration behind the Forrest Lissom is drawn from the life of Scottish botanist George Forrest (1873–1932). Best known for being one of the first Westerners to extensively explore the then-remote southwestern Yunnan province in China, Forrest made seven trips throughout his life, collecting tens of thousands of plant specimens and discovering a great many new species, with over thirty genera now bearing the specific epithet “forrestii.” This connection to exploration and discovery lends a sense of adventurous spirit to the watch.

Visually, the watch immediately captures attention with the iconic Farer colour combination of teal and orange. The dial features a grained teal satin texture, providing a perfect backdrop for the finely crafted Lumicast numerals. These crisp white markers, made using the latest Grade X2 Super-LumiNova, ensure excellent legibility, as do the tapered gloss white hour and minute hands also filled with the same high-performance lume.

Set into the dial at six o’clock is a light peach recessed sub-seconds dial, featuring a teal minute track and a bold orange seconds hand – a striking blend of colours that somehow remains easy to wear and adds a dynamic energy to the face. The peach tone is subtly echoed in the minute tracks, drawing the eye back towards the numerals, and the outer minute track is sunken, adding a further sense of depth to the dial’s design. This is a dial that is bold enough to make a confident statement on the wrist.

All of this is protected by a scratch-resistant flat sapphire crystal, treated with two layers of anti-reflective coating on either side for optimal clarity. The dial is housed within an incredibly svelte 38mm steel case, crafted from 316L marine-grade stainless steel. Its dimensions are notably thin, measuring just 7.95mm in thickness, with a manageable 42.8mm lug-to-lug length and a 20mm lug width.

The case finish is executed to the highest possible standard – Grade A – a level of finishing usually only seen on the most premium Swiss watches, underscoring the exceptional quality throughout every element. The curved lugs are designed to ensure the watch hugs the wrist perfectly, enhancing its sleek profile.

Powering the Forrest Lissom is a Swiss Made La Joux-Perret D100 calibre. This manual wind movement is finished to LJP’s highest soigné standard, representing a high-end Swiss movement with significant horological substance. It beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz), has 18 jewels, and provides approximately 50 hours of power reserve. The watch features a push/pull stainless steel crown with Farer’s signature solid bronze cap insert and comes on a suede leather strap with a 316L stainless steel buckle.

With 50m water resistance (5ATM), it is built for everyday wear. Offering this blend of a unique design, a slim ‘Grade A’ finished case, and a high-end Swiss manual wind movement at a price point of £1150 here in the UK, the Farer Forrest Lissom Watch is a true expression of modern sophistication and quality watchmaking, honouring a spirit of exploration and standing out as a remarkably elegant timepiece.
