The MING 37.09 Bluefin Watch (CHF4950) is the latest reinterpretation of the dive watch genre, blending technical prowess with MING’s distinctive, elegant design. This dive watch brings a new perspective to underwater timekeeping with an internally rotating dial and a clean, minimalist approach, all while maintaining a modern yet timeless appeal.
In developing the 37.09 Bluefin, MING aimed to surpass the technical capability of its predecessor, the H41, without compromising aesthetics or ergonomics. After much experimentation, MING decided to embrace a slimmer and more elegant diver’s watch design, characteristic of the 37-series. The result is a compact 38mm diameter watch with a 12.8mm thickness, which still delivers exceptional water resistance up to 600 meters. Remarkably, the prototypes achieved a crush depth of 900 meters—far exceeding expectations—thanks to carefully tweaked crystal curvatures.
One of the most striking features of the 37.09 Bluefin is its almost bezel-less design, giving the watch a larger visual presence despite its compact size. The alternating polished and brushed finishes further enhance the refined aesthetic, while the 2.8mm externally domed sapphire crystal provides a sleek, streamlined look that hugs the wrist comfortably.
The Bluefin introduces a unique approach to traditional dive watch functionality. Instead of using an external rotating bezel, the watch incorporates a rotating Super-LumiNova X1-filled sapphire dial, which can be adjusted using a sealed crown positioned at 4 o’clock. This innovative internal bezel mechanism is a 60-click, unidirectional system secured by sprung bearings, ensuring accuracy and safety when diving. Notably, the luminous crown is easily located and can be operated underwater, adding to the watch’s functionality.
The dial itself features MING’s signature minimalism, with new timing scales that are easy to read for both main and elapsed time. A new sapphire metallization process gives the dial a stunning deep blue colour, adding a dynamic visual element while ensuring optimal legibility in all lighting conditions. The hour indices, rendered in Hyceram lume, are placed on the underside of the top crystal, enhancing depth and readability.
Completing the 37.09 Bluefin is a customized Sellita SW300.M1 movement, visible through the display back. The skeletonized rotor and bridges, finished in matte anthracite, offer 50 hours of power reserve and bidirectional winding—all while meeting the requirements of a technical dive watch.
The watch is paired with an exceptionally comfortable moulded FKM rubber strap, which was meticulously designed to contour to the wrist and ensure maximum comfort during wear. With a keeperless design and tapered thickness, this strap delivers both support and style, making it the perfect finishing touch for a watch that redefines what a modern dive watch can be.
