Christopher Ward Dune C65 Watch: Riding the Aeolian Waves of Time

Christopher Ward has consistently delivered timepieces that blend classic design with modern functionality, and their latest offering, the C65 Dune Aeolian (£760), is a prime example. Inspired by the rugged aesthetic of classic field watches, the Dune collection presents a trio of distinct models, each designed for both durability and timeless style. The C65 Dune, in particular, captures the spirit of adventure with a refined touch, making it a truly versatile companion for any journey.

The Dune collection offers three distinct personalities: the C65 Dune Automatic, the C65 Dune Bronze, and the C65 Dune GMT. Each model retains the core DNA of the collection while offering unique features to cater to different tastes and needs. The Automatic provides a perfectly balanced combination of ruggedness and elegance, the Bronze develops a unique patina over time, and the GMT offers dual-timezone functionality for the modern traveller.

The C65 Dune Automatic, the focus of this exploration, has been reborn with a series of subtle yet significant improvements. The most striking update is the introduction of a three-dimensional “ripple-effect” dial. Inspired by the mesmerizing Aeolian waves formed by wind-sculpted sand landscapes, such as the Dune du Pilat in Aquitaine, this dial adds a captivating texture and depth to the watch’s face. This unique feature, previously seen on the Dune Shoreline LE, a collaboration with Oracle Time, elevates the Dune’s aesthetic to new heights.

The colour palette of the Dune Automatic draws inspiration from the natural world, featuring muted earthy tones reminiscent of vintage Land Rovers or sun-bleached fabrics. The available dial colours – Eve (blue), Marram (green), Silica (grey), and Sand (white) – offer a range of options to suit individual preferences. In the pursuit of field watch purity, Christopher Ward has also removed the date window, further streamlining the dial’s design.

Powering the Dune Automatic is the reliable Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement. This Swiss-made workhorse is known for its accuracy, reliability, and robust construction. With a 38-hour power reserve, the watch can be left unworn for over a day without requiring rewinding.

Christopher Ward also understands that robust watches can be beautiful inside and out. The Dune Automatic features an exhibition caseback, a rare feature for a field watch, allowing you to admire the elaboré-finished rotor of the Sellita movement. The compact 38mm case, box-sapphire crystal, and lume-laden markers, all hallmarks of the C65 collection, remain, ensuring the watch’s practicality and legibility.

With 150m of water resistance, the Dune Automatic is ready for any adventure, from urban exploration to outdoor pursuits. The Christopher Ward C65 Dune Aeolian is more than just a field watch; it’s a stylish and capable companion, ready to ride the Aeolian waves of time.   Sources and related content
