Studio Underd0g x Fears Gimlet Watch: A Toast to British Watchmaking

In a remarkable collaboration that bridges generations, two British watchmaking houses, separated by 175 years, have united to create a timepiece that feels both refreshingly modern and reassuringly classic. The Gimlet, a limited edition of just 200 pieces, is the fruit of this unlikely partnership between Fears, one of Britain’s oldest watch companies, and Studio Underd0g, one of its youngest. This exclusive timepiece will be available on a first-come, first-served basis during British Watchmakers’ Day 2025, making it a truly coveted piece for collectors.

This collaboration represents a fascinating interplay between heritage and innovation. Fears, with its rich history and tradition, embodies the legacy of British watchmaking. Studio Underd0g, on the other hand, represents the dynamic spirit of contemporary design and a forward-thinking approach to horology. Together, they have crafted a watch that honours the past while embracing the future.

The Gimlet Watch is powered by the reliable Sellita SW210-1 manual winding Swiss caliber. This robust movement boasts a 42-hour power reserve and an impressive accuracy of -7/+7 seconds per day, ensuring precise timekeeping. It’s a movement as dependable as your favourite bartender, a fitting choice for a watch named after a classic cocktail.

The dial of the Gimlet is a masterpiece of modern watchmaking techniques. The pale green gradient is achieved through a painstaking process, with seven layers of custom-made Super-LumiNova pigment applied to a base dial. Each layer must completely dry before the next is applied, a testament to the dedication and craftsmanship that goes into creating this exceptional timepiece.

A 1mm sapphire disc, adorned with co-branding, a minute track, and Arabic numerals, is mounted on top of the base dial. These two dials are then affixed together using two slotted head pins, creating a crisp, silky depth reminiscent of the Gimlet cocktail itself.

The dial’s unique construction creates a dynamic visual effect. In daylight, the printed details appear to float above the luminous base dial, casting shadows that shift and move with the changing light. This gives the dial a constantly evolving appearance, adding a touch of intrigue. In darkness, the Super-LumiNova base dial illuminates the printed details from behind, creating a mesmerizing effect where the numerals and markers seem to be suspended in mid-air.

The Studio Underd0g x Fears Gimlet is more than just a watch; it’s a symbol of the evolution of British watchmaking. It’s a fusion of heritage and innovation, a testament to the skills of two distinct yet complementary brands. It’s a limited edition piece that captures the spirit of collaboration and the passion for horology. It’s a watch that’s sure to become a cherished piece for collectors and enthusiasts alike. And like its namesake cocktail, the Gimlet is a refreshing and sophisticated blend of classic ingredients, expertly crafted to create a truly memorable experience.
