Tudor Pelagos FXD Chrono “Cycling Edition”: Built for the Road

TUDOR is once again pushing the boundaries of watchmaking with the unveiling of the Pelagos FXD Chrono “Cycling Edition.” Specifically engineered for the riders of the TUDOR Pro Cycling Team, this watch has been designed with lightweight materials and optimal functionality to withstand the extreme demands of professional cycling. With every pedal stroke pushing riders’ bodies and minds to their limits, the Pelagos FXD Chrono had to be tough, practical, and easy to operate in challenging conditions.

Drawing inspiration from the carbon fibre frames of the fastest racing bikes, TUDOR opted for a carbon composite case to ensure the Pelagos FXD Chrono “Cycling Edition” is exceptionally lightweight yet highly durable. Additionally, titanium is implemented in other elements of the case, further enhancing the watch’s robustness while maintaining a lightweight profile. This new edition all began with a brief from TUDOR Pro Cycling team riders: create a watch that could withstand the rigours of professional cycling while also serving as a useful tool on the road.

The matt black dial of the Pelagos FXD Chrono, accented with bold red details, prioritizes legibility and evokes the colours of the TUDOR Pro Cycling Team. The watch’s signature square hour markers and iconic “Snowflake” hands, originally designed by TUDOR in the 1960s, are crafted from luminescent ceramic composite for outstanding legibility, even in challenging lighting conditions. Adding to the cycling-inspired design, a re-calibrated tachymeter scale is printed on a 45°-angled rehaut around the circumference of the dial, with an inner ring specifically focused on the speeds that cyclists ride at.

Powering the Pelagos FXD Chrono “Cycling Edition” is the Manufacture Calibre MT5813, a high-performance movement that displays hours, minutes, seconds, chronograph, and date functions. Known for its precision, the movement features a “weekend-proof” 70-hour power reserve and a silicon balance spring, and it is certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC), exceeding COSC standards with variations of -2 to +4 seconds per day. Built-in the purest watchmaking tradition, the MT5813 movement incorporates a column wheel mechanism and vertical clutch for optimal chronograph performance.

The Manufacture Calibre MT5813 is derived from the renowned Breitling 01 chronograph, further enhanced with a high-precision regulating organ developed by TUDOR and exclusive finishes. This collaboration between TUDOR and Breitling has resulted in a movement that combines robustness, precision, and reliability, true to the spirit of TUDOR’s watchmaking philosophy.

The Pelagos FXD Chrono “Cycling Edition” is a testament to TUDOR’s dedication to creating high-performance, purpose-built watches. Designed for professional cyclists and adventurers alike, it combines cutting-edge technology, rugged materials, and refined craftsmanship to create a timepiece that performs just as well on the open road as it does in the world of luxury watchmaking.
