Espresso in Motion: The BREW Watch Co. Metric Manual Wind Copper

Independent watchmaking is at its most compelling when a brand possesses a singular, uncompromised point of view. For Jonathan Ferrer, the founder and designer behind New York-based BREW Watch Co., that muse has always been the comforting, tactile ritual of coffee culture.

While Brew first captured the enthusiast community’s imagination with its funky, barista-centric meca-quartz chronographs, the brand has spent the last few years steadily elevating its horological clout.

The latest release represents the absolute zenith of this mechanical evolution. The BREW Watch Co. Metric Manual Wind Copper strips away the sub-dials of its predecessors to deliver a pure, ultra-refined three-hand design.

Retailing for £672, this timepiece marks a sophisticated step forward for the brand, pairing an waves-of-crema sculpted dial with a premium Swiss manual-wound engine.

A Sculpted Tribute to Coffee Culture

The undeniable centerpiece of this new Metric variant is its visually arresting, three-dimensional dial. Ferrer’s inspiration for the layout stems from the exact hypnotic moment a freshly pulled espresso shot meets the bottom of a porcelain cup and begins to bloom outward.

* Dial Material: Copper base with radial 3D patterning
* Visual Aesthetic: Centered ripple structures with warm crema tones
* Layout: Symmetrical 3-hand configuration without date window

The dial utilizes a rich palette of copper and warm crema tones, featuring flowing ripple patterns that emerge from the center pin and expand towards the perimeter. This radial gradient beautifully mimics the natural dispersion and settling of coffee in motion.

By relying on a subtly raised outer minute track and stark, black-outlined hour indices, the dial achieves an impressive sense of mechanical depth. It feels simultaneously dynamic and calming, offering an elegant alternative to the brand’s historically vibrant, color-blocked aesthetic.

Mid-Century Proportions and Industrial Charm

On the wrist, the Metric Manual Wind Copper honors the tight proportions of the golden era of 1970s watch design. The cushion-shaped 316L stainless steel case measures a wonderfully compact 36mm in diameter by 41.5mm lug-to-lug.

“Because it lacks a bulky automatic rotor or an integrated chronograph module, this is the slimmest timepiece Brew has ever engineered, sitting at an incredibly sleek 8.5mm in thickness.”

This razor-thin profile allows the integrated-style architecture to hug the wrist with dress-watch elegance. The case geometry blends alternating brushed and high-polished steel surfaces with contrasting black industrial components, ensuring optimal structural clarity.

Protecting the espresso-inspired dial is a flat sapphire crystal glass, while the overall housing achieves a practical 5 ATM (50 meters) of water resistance.

The watch comes mounted on a beautifully articulated stainless steel bracelet equipped with quick-release spring bars and a micro-adjusting folding clasp.

Swiss Mechanical Precision Under the Hood

Flipping the cushion case over reveals the true premium heartbeat of this model. Displayed proudly behind a sapphire exhibition caseback is the Swiss Sellita SW210-1 b movement.

This robust, hand-wound caliber operates at a smooth 28,800 vibrations per hour, offering a dependable 42 hours of power reserve. Winding the watch provides an intimate, tactile connection to the mechanics, made even better by a newly sculpted crown engineered for a highly satisfying, crisp and audible click. For £672, the BREW Watch Co.

The Metric Manual Wind Copper successfully transitions the brand from a playful microbrand into a mature, horologically serious design studio.
