In the fast-paced realm of independent watchmaking, few brands have managed to cultivate a design language as distinct and immediately recognizable as MING. Following the explosive, highly colorful debut of the 57.04 Iris—a limited run of 100 pieces that vanished in a flash—the horological community was left wanting more.

Recognizing that the monopusher chronograph has become a foundational pillar of their identity, the brand has delivered a spectacular follow-up. Enter the MING 57.04 Phoenix Watch. Priced at CHF 6250, this manual-wind, “destro” monopusher dials back the sheer flamboyance of its predecessor in favor of a moody, architectural restraint that reveals its brilliant secrets only to those who look closely.
A Masterclass in Texture and Shadow
While the Iris was a flamboyant peacock of a watch, the Phoenix embraces a highly sophisticated tonal structure. At first glance, the face is an exercise in monochromatic grey, but the real magic lies just beneath the surface.

The deeply dished upper dial features intricate radial cutouts that serve as literal windows to the movement’s baseplate. This baseplate is treated with the exact same color-shifting multiphasic coating seen on the Iris, providing unexpected, brilliant pops of color that shift dynamically depending on the light and viewing angle.

MING is famous for its obsessive approach to luminosity and negative relief, and the Phoenix absolutely delivers on this front. The laser-cut sapphire crystal indices are filled with proprietary MING Polar White, while the diamond-cut hands and the uniquely redesigned sandwich-constructed chronograph minute counter disc glow fiercely with Super-LumiNova X1. It is a dial built entirely around depth, curvature, and graphic three-dimensionality.
The ‘Destro’ Monopusher Engine
Flipping the script on traditional chronograph design, the Phoenix is a true “destro” (left-handed) instrument. By positioning the large, tactile winding crown and the single chronograph pusher on the left flank of the case, MING offers a highly ergonomic wearing experience. For right-handed wearers, this prevents the hardware from digging into the back of the wrist during daily wear.

Powering this mechanical spectacle is the specially configured Sellita for MING Cal. SW562.M1. This manual-wind engine boasts a solid 60-hour power reserve at full wind.

Aesthetically, the movement has been updated with a beautifully sculpted anthracite three-quarter plate to perfectly complement the moody, grey tones of the dial side.

Through the double-sided anti-reflective sapphire exhibition caseback, collectors can admire the crisp visual contrast between the rhodinised mainplate and the dark anthracite architecture.
Uncompromising Case Construction
Housing these complex mechanics is a 40mm 316L stainless steel case that serves as a modern, sculptural interpretation of Art Deco design. MING’s expertise in unconventional, hyper-complex case construction is on full display here.

To achieve the absolute crispness of alternating brushed and polished surfaces on adjacent planes, the stepped lugs are actually multi-piece assemblies.

In fact, no fewer than nine separate pieces are required just to construct the lugs alone—a staggering level of manufacturing detail for a case of this size.
Key Specifications:
- Dimensions: 40mm diameter | 11.85mm thickness | 47.8mm lug-to-lug
- Material: 316L stainless steel with a polished-brushed finish
- Movement: Manual winding Sellita for MING SW562.M1 (~60hr power reserve)
- Water Resistance: 100 meters

Measuring a highly wearable 47.8mm lug-to-lug with a thickness of just 11.85mm, the watch sits beautifully on the wrist. Boasting a highly practical 100m of water resistance, the MING 57.04 Phoenix transcends the realm of a delicate dress chronograph. It is a robust, visually arresting daily companion that proudly anchors MING’s core collection.
